North Carolina Safe Mushroom Forager Certification

This certification meets the requirements of the North Carolina Food Code and DHHS 2017 Position Statement, which lay out requirements for selling wild mushrooms to food establishments in North Carolina. The two-day course covers identification of the mushrooms that are approved to be sold in North Carolina, poisonous mushrooms, safe mushroom handling, safe foraging, regulatory requirements and record-keeping, and mushroom foraging as a business. Included in the cost are supporting materials, a mushroom identification book, a photo ID card, and ongoing support, including listing on the NCWildMushrooms.com website. Full certification requires the two-day class, successful completion of a practical and written exam, and photo verification of each approved variety. Certification is valid for three years after course completion.
